Jeff Bezos' ex-wife 'divorced' $ 8.5 billion in Amazon shares
The number of Amazon shares MacKenzie Scott holds fell 2.5 million units last year, as she gave to charity at a record pace.
That equates to $8.5 billion, based on the average price of Amazon stock between Mackenzie Scott's two most recent announcements. At current prices, they're worth $7.3 billion.
According to the document just released, Scott still holds 14.9 million shares. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates she is worth the equivalent of $48.3 billion. This number could have been much higher had she not donated more than $8.6 billion to charities across the United States since her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019.

"I have too much money to share," she wrote in May 2019, when she signed the "Giving Pledge," promising to give at least half of her fortune to charitable causes. "I'll keep doing this until the safe is empty."
In a personal blog post last year, she said she was very concerned about social inequality. In 2021, she gives away at least $2.7 billion, according to a June 2021 post. However, as of the December post, she did not publish this figure.
Forbes magazine last month named Scott the most powerful woman in the world, thanks to her philanthropy at a record pace. Scott's philanthropy is overseen through her Lost Horse foundation. However, she also turned to the Bridgespan Group to select and evaluate donated organizations.
Scott is currently the 5th richest woman in the world. Her ex-husband - Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is currently the second richest person on the planet with $ 168.9 billion.
